Due to losing her parents who were Guardians, Allie has some missing knowledge about what and who she is. There is something very creative about the Demon Lords being assigned characteristics that perfectly fit into the persona of Las Vegas. The book is fast paced and I read it all in one sitting 6p-3a because I could not put it down. The ending seemed to leave room for a sequel and I would read it to see what happens to Allie.

The book does contain some violence in that the fight scenes between the Demons and Hunters do get described. There were some minor editing issues, ones that would not have been caught by a spell checker because they were spelled correct but used wrong. For instance, using "widow" when it really meant "window" but the story was so good these minor errors could easily be overlooked.
I would recommend this book to others and if you like paranormal books with action, characters you root for some good and bad and humor then this is the book for you. I think Emily Miles has created something good here. She gives us a character, Allie, who is tough, aggressive, and, in her own way, smart I would say "street smart" as opposed to "book smart" , doing the things she needs to do to keep her and her friends alive in the Demon infested city of Las Vegas. She is by no means the "perfect heroine," though, and I think that makes her a better character.
The one main problem I had with the book is that it felt like there was a lot of repetition, especially of the world "Demon.

Given the number of times Allie is grabbed by someone probably close to a dozen times , someone should really have grabbed her arm or her shoulder at least once. Also, there are times when Allie's abilities are kind of ill-defined. For example, she gets hurt pretty badly toward the end of the book and it seems like she's up and walking around a day later. I mean, she mentions early in the book that she heals quickly one of her perks but that seemed a bit much. There were a few places where some editing could have been done, such as errant apostrophes and the aforementioned repetition, but I think the world that Mrs.
Miles has created is a fun one. It feels like there's going to be a sequel or possibly a series and I hope that it they are as good as or better than this one. See all 26 reviews. I really liked it but the ending left me a bit confused. Is there supposed to be a sequel? Jan 08, Eric Townsend rated it really liked it. Sometimes it is nice when a book is simple to explain. When an easy read plops itself in front of your eyeballs and says that it wants to give you a break.
Getting to see those sins personified demonized? Her obsession with chocolate is the only annoying thing about her, mostly due to its cliche nature, but otherwise Allie is great, if a bit self-centered. Then there are the aforementioned friends. Ace, the funny guy.
Jenny, the calming force, the brain of the operation, and the hacker to boot. Oh, and the not-quite-friends. Like douchey Max, the guardian with a stick up his rear. That guy is a treat. While there were certain locations where features were described, it was often as part of a mission, so they were done in a how-to-utilize manner, not an architectural or aesthetically pleasing way. A few quick notes about why I really enjoyed this easy, paranormal read: Do you like paranormal books? Need more demons with cool powers, funny personalities, and quirky characteristics?

Miles has created a supernatural world of demons and demon hunters inside of Sin City. She and her friends are on the inside track of Vegas and know that demons walk among us as humans.
