~ My interviews with many authors

Describe the plump juiciness of the strawberry instead of the whole content of the fruit bowl, and the dark hairs above the waistband of his boxers rather than an overall impression of his body hair. Describe colours and shapes imaginatively, perhaps using similes.

Craft of Writing

For example, when they first met his heavily scarred face may have looked unattractive to her, but in this scene, every ridge and furrow strikes her as handsome. Describing something unattractive in attractive terms takes advanced writing skills. Near the beginning of the scene, describe gentle sounds from the surroundings — the hum of insects in the meadow, the cackling of the fire in the chimney, the tapping of raindrops against the window pane.

The best time to describe the smells is when the point-of-view character enters a new location. The moment she enters the room, mention the scent of wood smoke from the open fireplace, and when the couple walk into the forest, mention the aromas of pine resin and earthy moss.

Dancing in the Rayne

In an erotic scene, evoke only pleasant aromas. Any unpleasant odour would put the reader off. Are the lovers sharing a meal or a drink at the beginning of the scene?

Begin by describing what it feels like when the point-of-view character touches objects: Describe what it feels like when her bare feet walk across the fluffy carpet, the wooden planks or the freshly mown grass. These descriptions awaken the senses and prepare your readers for intimate touches. This is one of the less-known senses, and sometimes lumped together with touching something feels cold or warm to the touch or with tasting the drink feels cool or hot on the tongue. The chilly weather outside or the unheated room can motivate the characters to huddle closely together for warmth.

You can describe the cosy heat emanating from the log fire, the hot sand under her bare soles, the lovely cool breeze caressing her skin, the cool prickle of the champagne bubbling on the tongue, or the sheets feeling cold when she crawls into bed but pleasantly warm on the side where he has lain a moment ago. Is his body warmer or colder than hers?

Do his fingers feel cool or hot on her skin? How about his breath? Craft the scene so it could unfold only between those two specific characters, and only at this point in their relationship. The same applies if you could move the scene to much earlier or much later in the book. Few people want to adopt a black cat. They adhere to superstitions that black cats bring bad luck or are minions of evil.

Unlike me, he can sense magickal powers in all creatures. He raises his silver eyebrows. Caradoc possesses the kind of insight into people that I wish I had. He only needs to look at someone for a few seconds to form a dependable judgement. He reaches out to stroke Hekate.

She squirms, hisses, rakes claws across his face. Then, as she cowers under the table, he steps closer and kicks her in the side. When he turns to me again, his lips curve in a tolerant smile.

"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens..."

What has just happened? What does it mean? Caradoc just hurt a cat before my eyes!

Hekate scratched his face — he tossed her away from him in a reflex act, without meaning to. That kick, on the other hand A sudden coldness hits me at the core. That kick was deliberate. He meant to hurt. Where did this resolution come from? A moment later, his self-possession is back. Many eager cats rub against the bars.

Hekate keeps staring at me, her gaze so hypnotic that my whole vision tints yellow. Suddenly I see an image of Caradoc working magick in a circle of green light. On the table before him lies a cat, strapped down. With every feline scream, magickal energy rises as green light, and gets absorbed by Caradoc.

Nausea churns my stomach and spirals into my throat. I try to blink away the vision, but Hekate wills me to understand. I begin to comprehend. Dizzy and sick, I grab my mug and gulp down some tea to ground myself. As my rational reasoning returns, everything falls into place. She has two green raindrops on her.

Here is my interview with Jacob Rayne | authorsinterviews

Her toy finish is just a classic touch. According to Taylor, she likes the rain very much! She likes to play along in the wet land along with her friends. Her favorite spot is in the puddles, she likes to splash water and jump on it all day! Although, Taylor Rayne is a little naive, she is very loyal.
