Just a girl, living in South Korea…

I was minding my own business on my computer with my foot under a blanket that I sometimes use while on the computer, when low and behold an evil cricket was lying in wait and took a bite at my toe. I really appreciate your posting. My 18 month old daughter has 3 bites on her arm that look quite alarming, probably because she is so small. They appeard a few days ago and I searched her bed and room frantically trying to find out what bit her and it just occured to me today that we always have crickets in our house. Anyhow, like you, I tend to get off track, so as my daughter was squishing one with her book today I thought, hmm, maybe they are cricket bites and so of course I started my internet search which was pretty useless except for your posting and a few others, so thank you.

I am seven and I think a cricket has done something to me. I was trying to make it move and something sharp stuck in my finger, it hurt. Mummy has helped me to look on the internet about crickets to see if they sting or bite and we found your stories. I ran my finger under the tap. Having Crickets around has always been common here in Middle TN.

I have always picked them up and threw them outside. But, today I opened the closet door to grab a shirt, and there was a cricket hanging on the sleeve. I have never seen one like this before. Maybe I just never noticed. The Eggs are ejected out of this thing. Also read that they can use the ovipositor to inject into other animals skin, such as caterpillars. But I cant get a straight answer, will or can it sting human skin.

My guess Is yes it can. From now on I am gonna look before I pick up another Cricket.

The Cricket in Times Square is the first book in the series. It's about a cat named Harry, a mouse named Tucker, but it's mostly about a cricket named Chester. Chester lives in Connecticut. He was found by a lady who stuffs him in her purse. He gets carried all the way, to New York in a subway station.

There's a family who sells newspapers in the subway station. And there's a boy who finds Chester and picks him up and buys a special golden cage with a bell that hangs down. Once Chester hears the bell he is able to sing. Then Chester has his own concert. My favorite part is when Chester has his own little concert and he makes a lot of money because Chester makes beautiful music.

I would recommend this book and series to grade two to six because they are great fantasy stories about animals, but I would recommend them the most to people who like fantasy and animals. By the way this book is the first book out of seven books. They're great books to read. I first read this book back in elementary school in the late 's. It wasn't a required book to read, I just chose it because I guess at that age I was intrigued.

Because this was during the day and age pre-video games, a great book was an important find during that time. The Cricket in Times Square was one of those books. I disappeared into it and loved being in the subway, visiting the newsstand and almost smelling the newspapers, and taking a trip to mysterious Chinatown. Even after all these years I remember this book fondly and I was actually looking to see if it was in EBook form because I thought it would be great to read again.

Unfortunately it isn't yet. This book is a great book for boy or girl to read and I hope they enjoy it today as I did back when I was a kid. This book and the Men of Iron by Howard Pyle were my two elementary school favorites. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I loved this book! I read it with my 10 year who usually hates reading. She didn't want to put it down.

We loved the two dynamics, the human world and the friendship between the boy and the cricket, and the behind the scenes animal world with the unlikely friendship that formed between the cricket, mouse and cat. The love and self sacrifice that all the characters had toward one another was just beautiful! I bought this for my niece after reading it myself--SUCH a sweet book! This book is obviously written for kids, but it has something for everyone in here It's just really cute for a child or for yourself if you want to revisit your innocence for an afternoon.

I liked it because it was funny, sad and engrossing. I think it is a great book for many ages.
