While there isn't anything wholly unsuitable for younger readers, the themes are actually as in the fairy tales, but more so in today's world quite dark - abandonment, burglary, child abduction and of course abuse by a step-parent - they all come across as more upsetting in a context children will recog Interesting updates of fairy tales, some worked better than others I would firstly say that I would be recommending this for year olds, rather than the the book indicates on the back.

While there isn't anything wholly unsuitable for younger readers, the themes are actually as in the fairy tales, but more so in today's world quite dark - abandonment, burglary, child abduction and of course abuse by a step-parent - they all come across as more upsetting in a context children will recognise. Eight stories, each around 50 pages long and taken in plot and character from a famous fairy tale - we have: Couldn't he be 'in love' or grieving and ignoring his daughter?

The ages of Serena Joy Yvonne Strahovski , along with that of her husband, Commander Fred Waterford Joseph Fiennes , were a major detail altered for the adaptation; both are significantly younger on screen than in the book.

    For Fiennes, whose character has sex with Offred every month, against her will, in a bid to get her pregnant, the burden of playing a rapist — albeit one committing an act sanctioned by the ruling order — does not sit easily. In seeking to build an authentic world beyond that outlined in the book, Miller and his team drew — as Atwood did in her original story — on history, creating a meticulously detailed mythology for Gilead.
