But come rain or shine, shepherdess Emma Gray and her loyal dogs, Alfie, Roy and Fly, are always up with the larks. They have bleating mouths to feed When Emma breaks off her engagement, the opportunity to tend a flock of sheep on an isolated Northumberland farm seems like just the fresh start she needs. But whilst the beautiful scenery offers plenty of scope for contemplation, the chance of a night out on the tiles?

And once you add broken generators, gun-wielding madmen and freak blizzards into the mix, Emma's idyllic new life soon seems more Silence of the Lambs than shepherd's delight. With eighty sheep, three dogs and an unreliable phone connection for company, Emma can't help but wonder if she's made the right choice. Wonderful empathy with her dogs and an excellent storyteller '.
Emma Gray is a young shepherdess living on a National Trust farm in Northumberland. She also trains sheepdogs and competes in trials with her own dogs. But while the beautiful scenery certainly offers plenty of scope for contemplation, One Girl And Her Dogs: Life, Love and Lambing in the Middle of Nowhere. However, at times I felt many aspects of the story where a bit disconnected as the author tried to tell everything that happened to her the first year after acquiring her farm. Still enjoyed it, but it's not my forte, so I found it a bit plain at times, and this might have to do with the fact that I was expecting more dog stories and a lot less sheep.
One Girl And Her Dogs: Life, Love and Lambing in the Middle of Nowhere
I have a passion for sheep dog trials and attend as many as I can. Consequently I was really drawn to this book about a young English girl and her sheep dogs. I certainly wasn't disappointed and marveled at her persistence to establish her own farm in a really remote part of northern England.
A very enjoyable read. I really enjoyed this. An honest open account of a young woman who decides to make farming and being a shepherdess her way of life. She tells how her first year at the beautiful but isolated Fallowlees, a National Trust Farm, goes with honesty and clarity.
One Girl And Her Dogs: Life, Love and Lambing in the Middle of Nowhere
Its easy to see how much she loves her sheep dogs and the steadfast work they do. Such an interesting insight into the life of a young and female shepherdess.
