They say your stress levels are much lower if you have a dog and regularly interact with it. That's certainly true, but this book is like a massive stress reliever too! They are quite tightly packed, but I appreciate the sentiment of trying to fit as many of these amazing dogs into the book. I didn't have trouble flipping through, even with the quantity of photos.

I was, however, very disappointed that the captions for the photos aren't included. I would have much preferred fewer images with their respective text descriptions. The Dogist is my favorite Instagram account, and I purchased this book for my dad specifically because I knew he would love and appreciate the captions as much as I do. He'll still like the photos, but it's just not the same. Perhaps that's my fault for not doing more research before purchasing.

Not exactly what I was hoping for, but still a beautiful book. One person found this helpful. I decided to look through this book one day when I was really stressed. I had some where to go that I didn't really want to. The sweet doggy faces with just their names and what breed they are and how old they are soothed me and made me smile.

Some of the dogs have clothes which I think is silly but people put a lot of thought into dressing their dogs. Some were chewing rawhide bones and their faces are funny. All dogs are beautiful to me so this book was ice cream for the eyes and I made up stories for all of them. This book is wonderful. I am one of The Dogist's biggest fans. His work just makes me so happy. I got mine and immediately looked through the whole thing in one sitting.

As anyone who follows and loves The Dogist knows, Elias has a way of capturing each dog's unique essence. If you are a dog lover but not already a fan of his you will be after getting this book. If you ARE already a fan, support his work and buy this book. I plan to get a bunch for Holiday gifts. I disagree with another poster's comments about the format since it is misleading; only some of the pages are in a collage-like format and even they are wonderful.

Already can't wait for The Dogist II. It's got large double page pictures and lots of smaller pictures, all sorted by interesting things, like dogs with special Eyes, or in Water etc. And it also tells their breed and their name. Excellent as a gift. Wish it had more pictures of my dog's type, but I found some that looked like him. Large variety of dogs in all shapes and sizes, even 3 legged dogs, and dogs with 1 eye.

Hachiko Dog Statue In Tokyo

Sorted, so, for example, all the 3 legged dogs are together. I especially liked the pages of dogs with heads tilted. Also tells little stories about some of the dogs. Elias Friedman has done an incredible job of putting together an engaging and enjoyable book of dog portraits. Fans who know Elias best through his work on instagram thedogist will be happy to see what he has done with his first book. He separates the book into fun sections, eliciting "awws" at every page. It's a great book whether you have dogs or not. Definitely a recommended buy! See all reviews.

My mother was a dog lover and she and my father had dogs, strays and good breeds, from the first year of their marriage. She was a chronic asthmatic and contrary to what most people believe was a great comfort to her in her difficult moments. My father would be outstation on work quite often, but our dogs kept her company and sat at her feet — some even died of old age at her feet. Their love for dogs has passed on to their children — today I have three of my own, and so also do my brothers and sisters.

Thank you so much for commenting and sharing your story! Your mother seems like a wonderful person! Give your three dogs a big hug from me. I love this story about hachiko …. Hachiko statue — Depot Square. Train tracks — Railroad Street. This rail line is known as the Slatersville Secondary. Where Parker and Hachi walk together, and at the end of the movie, Ron and his puppy walk together. Stationary train cars under which Hachi sleeps — Railroad Street.

The stationary train cars were on the siding that curves to the left. It is seen in the movie when Hachi first arrives at this location. Railway Bridge under which Hachi walks — corner of Blackstone and Arnold Street Hachi rests under this bridge, walks up to the fork in the tracks and takes the line that goes straight. This is part of the Slatersville Secondary line.

The line ends a few hundred feet behind you. Street where Hachi is shown walking — Arnold Street When Hachi is on his own, he is shown walking here on his way to the butcher shop. Seen multiple times in the movie In front of New York Lunch: Where the old Hachi is shown walking slowly. Thank you so much Sira for this detailed free do-it-yourself walking tour! Will definitely check it out if we go to Woonsocket.

Love walking tours like this that are movie inspired! But I love dogs. It is so true that the more you spend time with you dog the closer you bond. That was sad in itself, but knowing what Harchi was in his loyalty bringing him up from a pup would have been the best 2 years of the owners life. I personally hope some day to visit Japan and visit this site where Harchi waited. Keep up your great work … Cheers and Thanks. I was surprised too that Hachiko only had two years with his owner, and that he waited at the train station in Tokyo for his owner to return for eight years!

But I read somewhere that one year for us humans is like seven years for a dog, so then he got around fourteen years with his owner. I have had fifteen years with my dog from she was 5 weeks old and up until now being 15, and even that feels like too little! I loved Hachiko very much, it is such a heart warming story.

Coincidence I think not, but my dog displays the royalty that Hachi displays as he waits at the door for my brother to come home at exactly Kaiser sounds like such a sweet and loving dog! I can totally get that you cried a lot in the end of the movie, I did too. I have had dogs all of my life and know how very loyal and loving they are Hachiko will always be in my heart. Nearly 5 to 6 times i have watched this movie and i cannot control my tears whenever i watch.

I have seen it twice, and I cried even more the second time. Yep, Hachi knows how to melt a heart. I really love the movie. I love your website. It is very awesome!!!! Unlike you I could not hold back my tears when watching Hachi the movie, I cried buckets. That time I have my companion Tibetan Mastiff — Rambo.

Really heart melting story of a loyal and love. Thanks for such a beautiful article too. Although they are fiction but a good movie for Dog Lovers. Thank you so much for tips about other good dog movies! Will definitely check them out as I love movies about dogs. I had watched it. Although its been a while since I watched, the film is still fresh in my mind… I remember how much tears I shed… not to mention puffy eyes and nose.

Even a dog can show such incredible act…. We are all blind by money and fame, we often forgot the most simple yet important values in life which we cannot value with money. Love, friendship, loyalty and faithfulness. May Hachiko forever take good rebirths without any sufferings. May the story of Hachiko always remind us to show humanity to all living creature. Thank you so much for your comment! I totally agree — us humans can learn a lot from dogs. Dogs truly show their gratitude and love without any boundaries.

Just watched the film and I have never sobbed so much! We have had several dogs, our last, Molly, looked after me like a nurse, I had a stroke and she knew when I needed a loving lick. Thankyou for your site, it was so nice to know the true story of Hachi. Awww, Molly sounds like the perfect dog! So sad to hear that she has passed away, and that you had a stroke.

Hope you are better! It always fascinates me how dogs can detect what mood we are in. They must have a sixth sense or something. Seeing that loyalty makes me want a Akita. I watched this film for the first time yesterday on TV. I had no idea it was a true story until the end, and I then looked at all the information about Hachi this unbelievably faithful dog.

I loved the film yes it did make me cry a lot!! I cried a number of times!! If humans felt and shared love this deeply, what a wonderful world this would be. This movie is great!! I did not know it was a true story until the end of the movie. Because it was such a heart-rending story, I wanted to find out more about Hachi and googled his name and found this web site. I was told to watch this film after sending my puppy to training, one of the owners said my cross puppy german shepherd had a bit of Akita in her and to watch the film.

Wow, I thought it was amazing, very sad and I cried a lot. But Sky my puppy who is 7 months now is so intelligent and loving and come second in a competition against all the other pedigree puppies as she is so clever!!

The Amazing And True Story Of Hachiko The Dog

Love all animals and loved this thread!! Awwww, Sky sounds like such a great puppy! Congrats on the second place in the competition! You must be so proud. Hatchi , ur one really great dog which i never see in my dog like u , i really crying on that movement when i saw movie. We all luv u hatchi , i want u back as it is…….. Really no words literally i cry buddy.

We had an akita growing up as a family pet so I can relate to this film. I must say it is an excellent portrayal of the independent yet devoted character of the akita. I was 7 when my mum bought him for me one Christmas and I was 20 when he died. Awww, your Akita dog seems to have been really sweet and loyalty! You must miss her. I have never owned an Akita dog, but they seem to be very devoted and attached to their owners. My Siberian husky dog is 16, she still goes skiing with me. I love her so much. As old man like me, I am 58 years old of age, is not easy for me to cry, but infact I was crying during reading the story.

I am touched with Hachiko faitfullness as long as 10 years to wait his owner comeback! Also I cry Maybe because I remember that in the past my Family, we have also a Dog and she was very friendly to us, we love her verymuch. Your family dog seems to have been the perfect dog and best friend. I have good memories too of the dogs that have been a part of my life over the years.

I was born into a dog-loving-family and have had dogs all my life. I know a dog can be owned and loved by more than one person. So that he mourned the rest of his life. There is no word to comment. I am writing this to mention my heartly thanks to author of this article. Nothing more;I am praying to God get an amazing dog like hatchiko. We have a dog in my family. Have just watched this film this evening with my family. A man of 55, I found myself fighting back the tears being reminded of my own dog and his loyalty to me. I once heard dogs described as angels in disguise — from my experience they are that and so much more.

I think everyone is fighting back the tears when watching this movie, no matter what age. Our dog Varga died last week, at 16 years of age, and it was just heartbreaking. I miss her a lot! It is the first time in my life without having a dog, and I can tell you, life is not as fun without a dog. Ow Hauglann, I really love your website. I dont own a dog, but the story of Hachi made me realize that God has amazing ways in teaching us how to love unconditionally, unselfishly and faithfully. So attached to his owner, that Hachi should have died too on that same day, than living a life worse than death, waiting for someone who would never return.

We are studying about Amazing Animals for our reading theme. It is fitting that since we live in Tokyo. Many of my students have been to the Shibuya eki and have seen this statue. He is loved by all my boys whom teach at St. Thank you for sharing your article with us. Wow, so cool that you are studying and learning about amazing animals!

Hachiko is one of the most amazing animals I have ever heard of. I got really touched by the story about Hachiko and his dedication once I heard it while visiting Tokyo. Thanks a lot for commenting! Good luck with you amazing animals project at St. Really a cried a lot.

This movie reminds me my pet pinky who is no more. It makes me feel like dogs are the most faithful towards their loved ones. He is been a best companion for the professor. I wanna make pet like this. Thanks for the article though. It explains the true story of hachi!!! So sorry to hear about your Pinky. Dogs and humans sure have a special bond, which the story of Hachi really proves. I cried and thought a lot after reading the story and watching the Hachi movie, It really inspire me and my family how to treat dog.

Now, I care more my dog at my home like my family.. I agree, Hanny, the story of Hachi makes us all care more for animals and dogs in particular. Hachi is such an inspiration! I wanted to know more about Hachiko and came across this blog post. I have three dogs and I shed a lot of tears watching the movie inspired by Hachiko. You should definitely visit Tokyo and Shibuya train station, it is a such special place when you know the story of Hachiko and have seen the movie.

My name is Achi, I never like my name since young. I have a dog which I found him trying to cross the busy road few years ago. He is born deformed, obviously he has been abandoned,I took him home with me, I love him so…so… much. My dream now is to visit Shibuya one day to a photo with Hachi. You have a beautiful name! Thank you so much for sharing your story of how you found and took care of an abandoned dog, it is such a sweet story! Your dog seems like the best. Hachi is a great name and a nice way of honoring the devotion of the original Hachi.

I am considering naming my next dog Hachi too. So glad our article could be of help to you when writing your presentation about hachiko! Good luck with your presentation! Just watched the movie about Hachiko with my husband.

A very sweet story and both cried our eyes out. What a wonderful story…. I just watched the Hollywood version of the movie last night. It was so touching and reminded me of why I love dogs so much. They are the best. I wonder if that has been turned into a movie too.

Thanks for the tip on the Korean Jindo. I have never heard of this breed but they look like really nice dogs too.

MEET BUBBA THE DOG!!! (10.13.14)

It seems like they are a bit similar to the Akita breed in their looks. Hachi demonstrated unconditional love and faithfulness. We humans needs to follow Hachi example. Great movie and true story. I watched the film last night and I have never cried so much. I have a small dog named chicken who was also abandoned and I gave her an extra hug last night before going to bed. Saw the american movie and if it were fact, the dog would have been picked up by a dog catcher and put in the pound…and the daughter did the wrong thing by the dog letting it roam around…no vet care, would have had ticks and disease.

Omg, what an ignorant comment…Do your research before speaking.. LOVE has to be a free gift. The moment there is a price tag on it, it is no longer love. Love is the most healing force in the world. Nothing goes more deeper than Love: I also would like to add that my maternal grandparents actually saw him at the Shibuya Station: Thank you so much for that information! So cool that your grandparents actually met him at Shibuya station! A great story about a loyal, fathful dog. I watched the movie with Richard Gere and loved it and yes I cried but it reminded me of my Star.

Star a black lab, born in and came to live with me in Belonged to my neighbor but always wanted to be with me. Given to me in May Past away in from cancer and I still talk to her every day. I still put flowers on her grave at least once a month. Star sounds like the perfect dog and best friend, Ron.

No wonder that you miss her a lot. I lost my dog earlier this year, so know how you feel. Dogs are the best! I watched the movie earlier today, then stumbled on your blog because I wanted to read more about this story — great tribute to Hachiko you have here! I saw this movie American version a few years ago in the USA and was touched very much by it, especially by the second half of the movie , but I must admit after a few weeks it fades away.

Now back in — my daughter has 1 year old puppy that I love very much too. Now I realise and feel even more the love of a dog for a human being and on the other hand how that puppy deserves our love as well. It was unbelieveble what Hachiko did! A few years ago I actually was in Tokyo , unfortunately I did not know about the train station being situated in Tokyo.

I would have visited it, for sure. Thank you so much for commenting! I agree, having a dog makes you feel a great love for animals and dogs in particular. Great to hear that Hachiko the movie was shown on Dutch TV, love that movie! Too bad that you missed the Shibuya train station with the bronze statue of Hachiko, but then you have a reason to go back to Tokyo.

Omg i cried my heart out watching the hachiko film. I only hope they have been reunited in heaven. God bless u hachiko. I have just watched the film Hachi — A Dogs Tale and was very upset being as it is a true story. I hope to visit the statue one day.

It is heart wrenching to witness the love and devotion between a dog and his master. I just watched the movie an it stole my heart , i cried! I did some research an read the story an seen some pictures an again it broke my heart. This story will always be with me, rest in peace faithfull one? Like all people who love dogs so much this story just shows how faithful and loyal a dog can be to the one they love. I watched him be born, he was my shadow and companion throughout his life.

We shared special moments together right up to the day he left me which still breaks my heart. They had to have bonded for that dog to be so devoted to him. But I am hopeless when it comes to dogs, I fall in love with all dogs I meet and want to keep them all. I watched both the American and Japanese version.

I remember when this movie came out….

Quake Dogs

I knew I was going to be in trouble and I was. I watched it and could not ever watch it again….. I cried so much. Dogs will always give us unconditional love…. There are spiritual forces that go beyond even that and Hachi was one of those. I have seen stories where dogs will go to the grave of their owner till the day they die. My first real love of a dog was Sonja doberman. Dogs have so much love and dedication towards us and unconditional love which touched my heart so much.

The enduring spirit of the canine bond is one of mystery and a sobering thought of just what real enduring love, loyalty, and above all else the unconditional love of that unseen bond that defies explanation. I have been fortunate to have experienced this from my dog that I grew up with when I was just a kid. I look back at the unbreakable bond that we still have, although it is a spiritual one know that he is gone since I know of nothing else to compare it to.

A great movie, wish there were more movies with this theme. See you later Skipper, I miss you. But the thought that the Dr. To just leave him alone to live in a train station while they moved away and forgot about him. No compassion for that dog at all. I hate them all, I really hate them. One of the best movies I have ever seen …and yes the tears kept coming even more the second time I watched the movie.

It was so painful to see Hachi desperately wait for Parker to return …but also uplifting to see the enduring friendship between Hachi and Parker. The ending eased the pain just a bit when Hachi died and was once again reunited with Parker. Hi, I saw the movie today and cried so much I dont think I ever done before. It was so sad thinking about him waiting for his owner that never returned year after year.

How heartbroken the dog must have been. Missing his best friend!! His an amazing dog!! Oh my gosh this movie was on TV last night. This was the first time for me ever hearing about the story and it was amazing and also very sad! I think I cried a little too much. Of course, I cry during reading this story again and again. I think I will not comment anything but finally write it down to share how do I feel? Basically, dog is the animal I feed them when I was young. I have 12 dogs and love to feed them for a couple on each time.

I just watched this movie and my love for life was warmed. I have 4 dogs, all of them rescued, that is, accepted into our home with open arms. They are all delightful and emotional and give me reason to believe that Love is sent to us by God in all sorts of ways. I mention God because my dogs have regenerated my HEART, shown me how to see the spiritual goodness still available in a sometimes ugly world.

I show them in every way I can imagine how much their friendship means to me, and they do the same thing. This story of Hachi is one of the most spiritual, emotional, and rewarding experiences of my whole life. I am thankful for the people who have transitioned this story forward so I could be a part of it.

Lunar, Lumi, Lubacha, and Jackson seem like such loving and great dogs! You are lucky to have them in your life and as your friends. Dogs are the greatest! This article is very amazing. Whenever i watch it , i feel like crying so much. I hope everyone get someone so faithful and loving just like Hachi was. After watching the movie and many tears later, I had thought of this idea. Would it be wonderful to create a communication system between us and dogs, and for the matter, cats. After all, these are our domestic four legers. When they are gone, we know the loss. Do they know, for if not, communication is needed by professionals in this field.

Dog and cat whisperers come to mind. People I know who saw both films said that the original film Japanese version is much more heavier and touching than the US version. Great true to life story for a dog. Akita dogs are normally sweet and more loyal to their masters compare to othe families of dogs. They want to maintain that behavior of akita dogs. I love the Hachiko story and movie too! They seem like lovely dogs! The fact that he is so loyal to his owner is what is so beautiful. I truly hope they are now reunited because Hachi deserves this!! Btw, your dog Varga is soooo beautiful.

I have such a soft spot in my heart for Huskies. I always say she is my first niece. Huskies are very special dogs!! I agree, the story about Hachi is so sad but yet so beautiful. Awwww, Freyja sounds like a great dog! I have had huskies all my life and for me huskies are the best dogs. She is soooo cute! I was extremely moved by it! Maria, thank you so much for sharing the story of Hachiko…. Like you I cried. I am a dog lover just like you.

I had dogs all my life. They are truly amazing. They are the only creature in this world that love unconditionally and willing give their lives for the one they love or even the family. They clearly have emotions like we do and they are the only ones in this world to love like Jesus, unconditional and faithful. To me… any dog should be treated better than we treat ourselves. There is nothing like the love of a dog, they are truly a gift from God.

I agree, dogs are the best and they are really mans best friend! Boy, was I in for a surprise.

What a moving, beautiful, life-affirming film. A terrific rendition of the story. This movie reminds me of white calf we had. I liked that innocent calf he even leaved his mother cow to stay with us. Awww, that calf sounds so beautiful, charming and friendly! Thank you so much for sharing your story about the white calf! I cried uncontrollablely for hours. Thank you so much for the detail information on Hachiko. I visited this place on Oct 17, The story of Akita dog, the movies, the photographs makes one aware the intensity of faithfulness and loyalty!

My heart waited for him , because I knew he would be coming back , and he did. Just like my heart did too. Really hats off to hachi……. The movie trailer and movie American version brought me to tears!! I loved the move and I really wish it had portrayed the gardener taking care of the dog after his owner dies.

It would have still have had the same effect. It broke my heart as i am a dog lover and I would have felt better knowing the dog was cared for and loved by his gardener.. I have never cried over a movie as I did this one and usually only get tears in my eyes. Such a loyal companion! Its a very special heart warming story of a dog.

Its one of those kind of movies which will make you fall in love with a dog and make you cry even thinking about the poor Hachi. That sort of impact is left after watching the movie and learning the story of Hachi. This is an all time favourite dog movie for me.. I inquired a Japanese Akita when I was So his name was money. So I took him. He was my big teddy bear.

He was very loyal and such a good boy. Sadly he died when he was When I was in Middle School we had a class project to do a report on our favorite animal. I did it on money. I looked up the Japanese Akita background and I was amazed to find out what the blood line was. We would go for walks everyday after school and everyone thought he was vicious because of his size. He was the sweetest boy ever. I just watched the movie about Hachi. It did make me cry and miss my money. That breed are very smart dogs. But the dog in particular was just heartbroken and missed his owner.

Wow, what a great story about your Akita dog! Money sounds like such a sweet and amazing dog, I totally understand that you miss him. Thank you so much for sharing your story about Money! The only thing is, I wish they would of taken Hachi to the owners grave, so he could have some closure. Hachi never really knew his owner died.

Maria, thank you for such a great story about the Real Hachi. Love love love this. I cried my eyes out. He would do anything for me and I him. When he passed, I actually had to keep calling out of work for almost a month. My boss knew of my Chevyloubear and knew of our attachment and fortunately kept my position open.

Bless her for being so understanding and so loving towards his loss. Not even my husband. Dogs are the very very best. Go play with my Chevy Lou Bear. Tell him mommy still loves him and thinks of him every day. Again, thank you Maria. Thank you so much! And thanks a million for sharing this beautiful story about your Chevy Lou Bear, he sounds like such an amazing dog! I know all about losing your best dog-friend and I can totally relate to you not managing to go to work for a month.

When my year-old dog Varga died a couple of years ago I only took one day off from work but I could not focus at all the next weeks, it was awful. And I did not want to go home after work because the house felt so empty without her. Yes, omg all i did was cry all thou the movie it hit me hard , wish i can have a dog just like him ,again i still cry after the movie!!!

Tokyo is my hometown, and Shibuya was the train station that I used to go to school every day. I can imagine that Shibuya station has changed a lot over the years. Yep, the huge intersection is quite impressive! Does anyone know the meaning of why Hatchi acted odd the day the owner died and finally fetched the ball? Is it possible the dog sensed the owner was going to die as they say dogs are capable of sensing in humans used by diabetics or people with heart problems as warnings? The dog was so famous that most of Asian people know him.

I cried a lot on watching the film. He lost in a a raining day when I woke up in the morning and could not find him. I tried to find Honey but he never came back to me. I cried a lot, a lot. The world should launch a serious campaign to remove the bad issue, to survive millions of dog from unexpected death. Oh noooo, I am so sorry to hear about what happened to your dog Honey!

That is awful and truly heartbreaking!! Thank you so much for commenting and telling us the sad story about your Honey, he seems like a great and sweet dog! Such true love and devotion. I live in Rhode Island where the American version was made. I did not know that there is a statue of Hatchi in Rhode Island as well, or that the movie was made there. It is such a lovely and sad movie. The poster for the Hollywood movie about Hachiko. Up close you see that the mosaic looks like Hachiko.
