A gentleman knows to cover his cough and sneeze with his elbow or shoulder and turns his head doing so. A gentleman always tries to look good for his lady when leaving the house. A gentleman knows that being vulnerable with those he loves is strength in action, not a sign of weakness. A gentleman has hands soft enough to cradle a newborn or fluff the carnation in his lapel but has hands tough enough to sock a another man who may unapologetically disrespect a lady in his presence.
A gentleman knows how tightly to bind the restraints on his lovers wrists, and how tightly to keep his lips in speaking of the act. A gentleman knows that his every word, step, and deed are being recorded by a generation a few years younger so his behaviors become intention. Really good point about how a man has to be accountable knowing his behavior is going to be remembered by a younger generation….
My personal favorite is A gentleman knows the difference between rare and medium rare. Brilliant, I especially liked: A gentleman treats waiters and bartenders with respect. A gentleman gives back to his community. Excellent collection, my favorite might be: A gentleman can have a spirited discussion without it turning into an argument. Too many people today love to argue without taking a single moment to realize: Nobody likes to be wrong, but it takes a man to admit to his mistakes and do the right thing going forward.
This is not only a good characteristic of a gentleman, but a good leader as well. Some great others very disappointing, especially: A gentleman has chosen to loose the veil and see through all the lies of governments and the very few who control the masses for their own selfish and atrocious endeavours. A gentleman knows that if its not for the good of everyone then is no good at all.
They watch out for friends who may have had too much. A gentleman accepts a helping hand. A gentleman takes accountability. A gentleman knows how to relate to children of any age. A gentleman always carries a little cash. A gentleman remembers the birthdays of his close friends and relatives. A gentleman faces his greatest fears. A gentleman looks at his cell phone for a brief moment and then puts it away to focus on reality. A gentleman is aware of his shortcomings. A gentleman is never without a back up plan. A gentleman always remember God in pray in difficult times and when he is about to make decision.
A gentleman always love.
I see the singlet-wearing tattooed meatheads get all the girls they want while the suave gentlemen quietly lurk in the corner with their sub-standard Manhattans. The only time I see him wearing a suit is when he has to appear for legal summons. That is the long and short of it. I hope we see more of these two in future novels. Feb 12, Pr! It was a nice story but the ending seemed rushed. I would like to read more about Brenden and Liam. Feb 15, Idamus rated it it was ok Shelves: An American hero has only a few weeks of rest and relaxation before he is sent back into battle.
What does he do to make the most of his time? He contacts Madame Eve to help arrange his lifelong dream date. Brenden Fitzpatrick has known what he wanted his entire life. He was made to become a Marine. All-American, driven, generous and kind, he was the guy everyone always admired. Unfortunately for Brenden, his dreams required him to hid Originally posted at: Unfortunately for Brenden, his dreams required him to hide one very crucial fact. Openly gay, Liam was the man Brenden protected, befriended, and confided in.
What I like best about this tale is within the first few pages, it was no longer a story about two men, but two old friends who wanted to reconnect and perhaps rekindle an old attraction. I do wish we had seen a little more of the two after they finally coupled since the bulk of the story was the build up, but what we were given was beautiful and very heart-felt.
It was a pleasant surprise to get a sneak peek of many of the characters from previous editions of the Always a Marine series. Long has a wonderful way of showing the connection between characters, and it was wonderful to know they had all stayed together and were making their relationships work. Hopefully Brenden and Liam will join that group. Feb 07, Christi Snow rated it it was amazing. I love a good friends to lovers romance. This one was good because Brenden was so far in the closet, Liam never knew, even though they were best friends for a long time.
But Brenden wanted to join the Marines and that was during the "don't ask, don't tell" era so he never, ever tempted fate and his future by letting his sexuality slip. Now that policy in the military is defunct and Brenden is going after the one guy he always wanted, but could never have, his best friend from high scho My Review: Now that policy in the military is defunct and Brenden is going after the one guy he always wanted, but could never have, his best friend from high school, Liam.
Liam never had any idea that Brenden was gay. He was always attracted to him, but for obvious reasons, could never do anything about that. To find out now that things could have been different is quite a blow. This was a good, hot little book. I enjoy the 1 Night Stand series and seem to enjoy them even more when the characters have a prior connection. Add in the military aspect of Brenden's and yep, this was good! Even though it's a 1NS, it also maintained an element of realism in that Brenden is very upfront about his military career.
He's in the military for the long haul and that means a deployment is on the horizon. I thought the author handled that unknown very well for these two characters. Jan 07, Sophia rated it really liked it Shelves: This was a reunion romance of sorts though there was no hint of any feelings other than friendship back in highschool between the two guys.
Liam was out and Brendan remained deep in the closet so he could get into the Marines which was and is the vocation he wanted. He also wanted something else and now he is determined to see if there is still a chance of getting it since the repeal of DADT. Brendan is on leave and is intrigued by this 1NS service that his buddies speak of.

He goes for it all and is matched with his HS friend, Liam, to see if there is any chance for them. I loved getting both their perspectives.

This does not just jump right to sexy times. I liked how there was time taken to establish the characters and there was time given to clear away all the past assumptions first. Liam is cautious because he doesn't want to be used and they are both tentative because Brendan is a career man so there is an expiration on their time together. They were both worthy men and I loved them together.
Only niggle, it ended abruptly. Hope to see more of them later on in the series to check in and see if they get back together when Brendan returns from Yemen. I recommend this series to those who love military romance and appreciate romance in all the forms that it will take. Nov 01, Jen rated it really liked it. It's not as if every single Marine is straight so this was a nice change of pace.
With the help of 1Night Stand, Brenden finally decides to do something about his feelings for Liam. Liam has always had a crush on Brenden but never did anything about it because he's always assumed Brenden was straight; so imagine his surprise upon Brenden admitting that he is, in fact, gay. While Liam's always been comfortable with being gay, it seemed as if he wasn't as comfortable with Brenden being gay! I get that he was surprised but hey, wasn't this what he's been dreaming of since they were in high school? This was an enjoyable story and while the ending may be somewhat open-ended, it's one that gives this couple hope for a happy future together.
May 15, Tyra Berger rated it it was amazing Shelves: For someone who has known his whole life that he would be a Marine, also realizing that you are gay doesn't make things easy, but Brenden wasn't giving up his dream.

Now that DADT has been repealed maybe he can finally connect with Liam the boy from high school that he always wanted. Liam can't resist meeting with Brenden when he gets the call from 1Night Stand, but he has know idea why his once protector wants to see him. Have you ever wondered what happen to that unfulfilled crush that you had i For someone who has known his whole life that he would be a Marine, also realizing that you are gay doesn't make things easy, but Brenden wasn't giving up his dream.
Have you ever wondered what happen to that unfulfilled crush that you had in high school? A Marine and a Gentleman answers one version of that question. When the two men meet at the restaurant Liam's attitude is understandable. He is cautious and doesn't believe that Brenden is gay at first. However the chemistry and the sparks are there from the beginning and you know that once they come together it's going to be explosive!
It takes a talented story teller to give you a "full" story in just 40 pages and Heather Long does just that. The character's were fully realized and very believable with a story that I had no problem falling into and wishing for more pages. If you are a fan of hot Marines I would suggest the entire Always a Marine series there is something for everyone in these spicy stories of love.
I am glad that I decided to go with my gut and read it. This story is romance, plain and simple. Granted, there is sex, but come on, that is par for the course with the 1NS series. I love that Brendan and Liam were friends in high school and Brendan always defended him. Liam knew who he was in high school and didn't let the bullie Sarah's Review: Liam knew who he was in high school and didn't let the bullies change who he was.
Brendan knew that he was going to be a Marine and kept who he truly was hidden so that he could serve. I love that Liam agreed, knowing that it was Brendan. Liam is curious to find out why Brendan wanted it to be him. Liam has always thought Brendan was straight and that helped keep their friendship. I enjoyed reading them catching up like old friends then decide to go to the next level. I hope that we can see snippets of them in the future. No gossiping, spreading scandalous rumours or running others down.
