Theorizing that she is probably waiting for him, he tries to confront her. The few things she is able to say reveal she is looking specifically for Kyon, not Yuki, and that she wants him to "join her".

Things seem dangerous when Ryoko Asakura appears, claiming Kyon as "her prey" and saying that the Canopy Dominion has no right to his living or death, but the Data Overmind does. It is clear that Ryoko has murderous intent, although whom this is directed at is unclear. She instigates a knife battle with Kuyou, twisting the world into one similar to the one she fought with Yuki in during The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Emiri appears and tells Ryoko that she has overstepped her boundaries. Kuyou seems to disappear into nothingness, but she appears a second later about to kill Kyon; Ryoko saves him again. Kuyou then smiles, a supposedly beautiful smile that scares Kyon somewhat. Kuyou disappears for good, and Emiri reveals she was the one who summoned Ryoko, having been given responsibilities delegated to her by Yuki. After Ryoko is told she is being too deviant and after being insulted by Kyon, Ryoko disappears, stating that she can only appear during times of emergency and that she can appear when she is needed.

Emiri informs Kyon that Yuki is actually the one attempting communication with the Canopy Dominion, which is possibly why she is sick; the Dominion contacted Yuki specifically, because she was the closest to Haruhi. When Kyon asks Emiri what he can do, Emiri says that he can do nothing. Kyon, displeased with the Data Overmind, returns to Yuki's house, where he discusses events with Itsuki. Kyon goes home and calls Sasaki in an attempt to assemble her, Fujiwara , Kyouko , and Kuyou, hoping that it will help him find the cure to Yuki's problem.

Tuesday, Kyon talks with Haruhi after she arrives later than usual due to stopping by Yuki's apartment to make her breakfast. There's been no improvement in her condition. During lunch he has conversations with Taniguchi and Itsuki. Itsuki mentions that despite her worried state, Haruhi has not been creating any closed spaces or Celestials over the past few days. He also chides Kyon for paying too much attention to Yuki since the events of Disappearance.

After school he meets with Sasaki, Kyouko, Fujiwara, and Kuyou. All three members agree to that condition if Kyon transfers Haruhi's power to Sasaki. Neither Kyon or Sasaki would like that to happen, but Fujiwara and Kuyou continue antagonizing them, which ruins their meeting. Kyouko mentions that Itsuki founded and is the leader in the ' Agency '. Fujiwara mentions the process behind using the TPDD to create holes in time space while traveling. He gives Kyon more time to make his decision and leaves. Kyouko soon follows but Kuyou stays until Kyon and Sasaki leave.

Kyon, Sasaki, and Kuyou run into Taniguchi and Kunikida outside the cafe. While Taniguchi mistakes Sasaki for Kyon's "old girlfriend", it is revealed that the girl Taniguchi dated during the events of The Disappearance was Kuyou. She later dumped him around Valentine's Day once she realized he was not Kyon. They then go their separate ways.

The next day would be Wednesday. Kunikida catches Kyon as he walks to school and mentions that all three of them haven't changed since they entered high school. The rest of the day passes by normally. After school only Itsuki and Kyon go to the clubroom. Instead of playing games, they go outside and play catch while talking about the events that have occurred. It might be confusing since a great portion of the novel is split into two different timelines.

Timeline a deals with Yasumi, while timeline b deals with Yuki's "fever" and Sasaki's mysterious powers it is the more eventful time plane. It is all resolved by the end of this novel though, so don't worry. The illustrations by Noizi Ito are as gorgeous as ever. Her art style has progressed a lot. Overall, this is another great addition to the Haruhi Suzumiya canon, and it does not disappoint. If you love this series, then this book is required to be read at least once! Long long ago I tried reading the manga and I hated it, but after that I noticed Haruhi Suzumiya popping up everywhere.

When I found out it was originally a novel series and it was available in english I decided to take a chance and read it. Then my obsessive need to read read read till the end happened so I bought vols and read them as fast as possible. My compulsion would not let me stop, whether I liked the story or not mattered littl 3. My compulsion would not let me stop, whether I liked the story or not mattered little, I had to read it right now.

But then this vol thankfully vols 10 and 11 combined wasn't out. I put it on hold, months passed and then finally I got it! Excited, okay no by then the compulsion to read this series was gone. It didn't help I couldn't remember who was who and frustrated I put the book down and started reading other things. Months passed, and then I couldn't stand seeing it in my currently reading shelf and started reading it again. No crazy compulsions, no expectations, I just wanted to say I'd finished it.

But then something strange happened, I was no longer confused about who was who, I remembered vague references to previous novels, and I liked what I was reading. For the first time I realized I like this series, thank goodness Yenpress is the company that licensed it I love them so. No big deal, eventually everything clicked, but it would've been nice to have. Especially when some of the names sound similar.

A and B can't do the symbols. It was nice to have a break from the heaviness of B's storyline.

Both story lines where interesting and I really liked the idea, it just took some getting used to. He's so internal it's not always obvious what he's thinking and what he's actually saying. See Kyon doesn't use "" when he talks, everyone else does, but not Kyon. Nope he thinks, a lot.

The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya (First Part)

And yet he's not always self reflective. He's pretty interesting and I like how much he's grown from the first book. He's still a child, gets angry at his helplessness, but he's more accepting of situations, and after everything that's happened he's become arrogant. It makes sense but sometimes I wanted someone to smack him, because his head may get too big someday. Her character didn't take the road I expected props to Nagaru Tanigawa for that especially with all the hints about how much she's disappointed in the world.

Of all the characters she's the most self-reflective. I really liked learning from her. Lots of reflection and philosophical monologues. The ending of vol 10 didn't feel like a novel end, just a chapter end so this was great. Perhaps not as close to him as the girls are, but they exist and are given some more air time here.

But now him and Koizumi seem to be getting closer. I'm hopeful that there friendship will grow as the series continues.

The Book Buyer's Guide of Haruhi Suzumiya (September, ) : Haruhi

I personally like reading sci-fi, but I have never once understood it. I just can't comprehend no matter how it's explained to me. So I have no idea if the sci-fi in this book makes sense or not, but I still enjoyed it despite that though it did take away from the conclusion for me. Things revealed in earlier novels tend to matter in later ones, not to mention hints are given of what's to come next.

I'm really curious on his writing process. It's just not complete yet, but there is no word on when the next book will come out that I could find. I heard that he was writing the next book, but that was back in the source so who knows. I finally realized I like this series, I hope it gets the conclusion it deserves, but I wonder if the author isn't able to handle the success he's gotten because of this series?

The first year consists of vols and the beginning of year 2 consists of vols The author has a long way to go if he follows the same format of year 1, but who knows what his plan is as long as he doesn't rush it. Personally I want to read about their graduation. That will probably be the most poignant moment in the series, and just the idea of all the possibilities is awesome.

But who knows how far into the future that will be, or if it will even happen.

Finally got around to finishing this series I began years ago. Overall a good conclusion to the series.

HARUHI SUZUMIYA (NOVELS) by Nagaru Tanigawa

In this book gone the lovable protagonist Kyon his wittiness, sarcasm, and snark comment in this book is gone, not only that the protagonist keep saying same thing and not doing anything remarkable. In this book Kyon just whinny character that can't do anything it just keep finding excuse to stand there and do nothing, it make this entire book boring and a drag to read. I spent 2 month to finish this the reason is every time I pick it I can only read pages before giving up. Sure the author try to make it interesting, but let face it he's out of material, a boring protagonist that can't do anything is just a boring story.

The idea is good but in the end I find no reason to make this book this long it basically just repetition and repetition and I swear it almost make me want to throw this book or just burn it. The end is quite good but doesn't justify my brain to suffer this much. Also why keep saying this is end of the series, it is not the end, even the author and the publishing company acknowledge that he is in hiatus, the end without any resolution or conclusion is not the ending.

Kyon is an ordinary first-year high school student who has given up his fantasies of espers , time travelers , and aliens as he left middle school.

However, sitting behind him is the beautiful, intelligent, and eccentric girl Haruhi Suzumiya , who in her class introduction blatantly states her singular desire to meet aliens, time travelers, or espers. Interested, Kyon starts trying to make small talk with her before class, eventually leading to normal conversations with Haruhi. One day, after making a comment about Haruhi's displeasure with the available school clubs, he finds himself dragged into membership of the newly formed S ave the World by O verloading it with Fun Haruhi S uzumiya Brigade Japanese: Haruhi quickly claims the Literature Club's room and its sole member, the silent bibliophile Yuki Nagato as property of the SOS Brigade and "voluntary arrests" the timid but cute Mikuru Asahina and the polite, smiling Itsuki Koizumi as the club's other two members.

As the story progresses, however, Kyon finds that each of these supposedly "helpless victims" are actually agents of fantastic organizations who have been sent to monitor Haruhi, who they explain as having superhuman abilities of manipulating the universe. Haruhi's unawareness of her powers means that she unconsciously creates a new universe—one more to her liking—and attempts to switch over whenever she becomes bored or otherwise dissatisfied with reality.

To prevent this, the members of Haruhi's club spend their time trying to keep their god-like leader entertained, hold her powers in check, and maintain the illusion of a normal life. The story follows the SOS Brigade's first movie making project, starring Mikuru Asahina as the main protagonist, who has sworn to protect Koizumi, while she faces Nagato as the antagonist.

Eventually, in the movie, a love-triangle ensues with both Mikuru and Yuki striving for Itsuki's affections. The movie is Haruhi's idea for the upcoming cultural festival. However, she begins to confuse the movie with the real world, and the real world begins to become more like her movie. The pigeons in front of the shrine turn white, then into passenger pigeons , cherry trees blossom in autumn, Mikuru begins to shoot lasers out of her eyes, and the cat Shamisen begins to talk. By the efforts of Itsuki and Yuki, Kyon eventually convinces Haruhi to add a disclaimer at the end that the movie is a work of fiction.

Overnight, the movie apparently edits itself, and is shown. With the disclaimer, Haruhi herself realizes it is a work of fiction, and the world reverts to normal. While published as the third volume in the series, this light novel collects short stories originally serialized in The Sneaker , and chronologically takes place between The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya. Initially, they enjoy the facilities and play outside on the beach, but later they get mixed up in a murder mystery once Keiichi is found dead, and attempt to find clues to solve the mystery.

It is soon revealed that the murder was just a hoax to spur up excitement. Later, Itsuki reveals to Kyon that this was a plan to keep Haruhi distracted. In this novel, the story takes place from December 17 until December 24 a month after the cultural festival. However on December 18, Kyon arrives at school to find everything has changed— Haruhi Suzumiya is missing, and Ryoko Asakura is a normal student. Kyon is the only one who notices anything different.
