But with a little help from the boss, all will be well in the world of love. Why can't these bad guys all just die, already. I'm so sick of some of them. Loved seeing more of Thais. I really hope the next book is hers. What the heck is going to happen with Greer's sister, Sorcha? And what the heck is an Unperson?

She was just a girl in the wrong place at the wrong time. Being an eye witness to a dangerous killer, Jenna is whisked away in protective custody but being kept in the dark makes it hard to trust anyone. Even the good guys. Not until he lays eyes on Jenna.

See a Problem?

He sees her fear and he wants to erase it. When she smiles at him, he feels it in his chest. Their a tricky land mine but Dare finds himself cautiously crossing them. I like a hero who has to eat his words when it comes to love and commitment and Dare goes from firmly believing he was all work and no play to falling hard and risking it all for his girl.

Watching him fight his own feelings was funny especially since his whole team called him out on it. I did wish the story was a bit more centered around the romance story and less about the baddies and their POVs and the handful of other side characters that contributed, but overall it was a well-rounded romantic suspense. The ongoing investigation and several main players do take precedence over the romance budding between Dare and Jenna. If you like your suspense taking a stronger lead than the love story, this one will fit the bill: All thoughts and opinions are my own.

No ages are disclosed. No virgin MCs Cheating: Main Pursuer of relationship: Human trafficking on and off page , sexual exploitation on and off page , murder, and some violence. Jan 30, Anita rated it liked it Shelves: I have no idea why I requested a book that is 5 in an ongoing series. I usually don't drop into a series like this. But, I have to confess, this isn't the first time. Some have turned out great: Let's read the book and see. Well, "Close to the Edge" was not a book you want to drop into a series with.

First off, my ARC started on Chapter 2. The publisher made no effort to correct this. Second, because I started with Chapter 2, I felt like Alice falling down the rabbit hole. I had no idea what was happening, to whom or why. I didn't know if it was the Chapter thing, dropping into the series at book 5 or if the book was just plain lousy.

I've decided the book is just plain lousy for the first half at least. After that I sorta figured out what was what, but it didn't help by that time. I will say that I really liked the heroine, Jenna. She took her own Alice down the rabbit hole experience and dug deep to make a difference and win the hero, Dare's, heart. After reading the whole book, I found the first chapter at the very end. There are a lot of characters and plot lines from the previous books, so this is really not a book to start with in the series.

The Shadow Ops Team is a special group of Federal Agents tasked with pursuing the baddies who think they are untouchable. In "Close to the Edge" Jenna is caught up when the team goes after a baddie, Kirkland. She has a real "lust at first sight" reaction to Agent Dare, who feel likewise, but doesn't want any relationship, especially with his witness. These two can really ignite the pages with their passion, which was the best feature of the book. The plot was predictable and very disjointed with the omnipotent POV.

Jan 17, Beth rated it really liked it Shelves: I believe that started the read off with some confusion why the main characters were at odds right from the start. Close to the Edge is a complicated, multifaceted plot and plot directions.

Runaway Virgin (Sturgis Rally Riders, #1) by L.C. Dean

The base story was strong but there was so much going on that some of the strength it held was lost. This is my honest and voluntary review. Close to the Edge is set for publication Feb. Martin's Paperbacks Publication Date: February 27, ISBN Military Romantic Suspense Amazon: This is the story of Dare and Jenna.

I have read the previous books so that helped me with the enjoyment of this one. This does have a fantasy type story line I thought but also a good drama filled romance. Ryder write some exciting stories with some hot romances and this one didn't not disappoint. Loved reading their story. Mar 05, Caitlyn Lynch rated it did not like it. Dare Servant is a member of the Shadow Ops task force.

Fiercely dedicated, he has no intention of letting emotion cloud his judgement. When innocent Jenna Henson stumbles into the middle of his op, though, all his plans go up in smoke. I wanted to like this book, I really did. Romantic suspense is probably my favourite of all the many genres I read, and a tall, dark and handsome Special Forces agent is definitely my favourite kind of hero. Why she actually decided she was interested in him beyond a basic physical attraction was utterly beyond me.

He appeared to have no qualities one might want in a romantic partner at all beyond his physical attributes. It was just… forgotten about and never mentioned again. Seriously, why give your heroine a cool skill like that and not let her use it? The worst part for me, though, and the most unbelievable, was when Kagan, the Shadow Ops leader, deliberately put Jenna back in play without actually telling Dare or anyone else about it. Dare wasted hours of valuable time concentrating on her, convinced she was working with the bad guy despite having already witnessed the bad guy attempting to kill her.

He wanted Dare to get in touch with his emotions.

I basically noped out and coasted to the end of the book after that. Not having read any of the others in this series, there was a heck of a lot going on I had no clue about, too; this is definitely not a standalone. I received a copy of this book for review through NetGalley. I have read a couple of books in this series. This one started out confusing for me because for some reason the story started near the end rather than in the beginning. I think my copy was perhaps a bit messed up. Nevertheless, I was able to get the story from the beginning which makes more sense. Jenna is a friend who tries to help a friend out.

As a person who can sub in for catering, she shows up a little too early to a job only to catch people wiring her client's house. This is how she stumbl I have read a couple of books in this series. This is how she stumbles across Dare Servant. Dare is not expecting this spunky female to argue with him or even excite him. The characters were okay. But Dare is a bit overly domineering and annoying at times. Still, they partner up to try and bring down a criminal. The plot of this story seems to be left a bit behind with the focus on the romance between the two.

The chemistry between the two is okay if a bit forgettable. I am a bit disappointed as the last couple of books I liked the characters better. Some of the previous characters do show up as supporting cast and it is fun to see them again. Overall this story is okay. Recommended to romance suspense readers who like alpha males and spunky females. May 04, Elaine rated it really liked it Shelves: It is the fifth book in the series and it does work as a stand alone but I suspect would be enjoyed even more if other books in the series had been read first as there is an ongoing investigation through the stories.

The hero for this story is Agent Dare Servant and he is determined to keep Jenna Henson safe after she inadvertently walks into his perilous mission, placing her is danger from his enemies. Initially Dare is her bodyguard and the chemistry between them is scorching! Now he has to fight his own feelings, not take advantage of the situation and keep her safe.

I'm afraid I couldn't finish this one. Right from chapter one, as a reader, you're dropped into a story and it seems that you're expected to understand what's going on and who these characters are. Well, I don't, because I didn't read the other books in the series, and no one warned me that I needed to. So I'm just not going to keep reading. Jan 30, Becky rated it did not like it. Gifted read by Netgalley for an honest review. From the beginning of this book it was confusing, I even went back to the beginning to make sure I hadn't missed some chapters or an introduction to this story.

I looked at the others books in this series to see if they were continued storylines because that's how confusing this book is. It just jumps right into the story like it's a continuation of something. Like your supposed to understand why she has a chip implanted in h Gifted read by Netgalley for an honest review.
