Simply put, she contributed immensely to my enjoyment of this audio book. As I mentioned in my review of the first book in this series, the Phantom stories remind me of the Mediator Series by Meg Cabot. Like with that series, I recommended the Phantom books to my teen daughter, who quickly devoured them and enjoyed them as much as I did. If that is not a ringing endorsement I don't know what is! It's hardly surprising that another spirit finds them and demands help--in her own weird way.
To solve this mystery, Stevie must open a door into the past and discover things about her mother. The ghost also helps her deal with prejudice against a new friend who shows up at school. When Stevie and Jase both see the phantom haunting the old elementary school, they realize this mystery must be solved. The ghost won't take no for an answer. These stories take me back to another era, a time that seemed simpler and safer than today. I love the characters of Stevie-girl and Jase. Their innocence and curiosity are refreshing. I read the other books in this series out of order, but it didn't matter.
The stories are all stand alone and easy to understand without reading the whole series. I warn you, though. It's like eating potato chips, you can't stop with just one.

Whenever I read a book that I love with characters I want to spend more time with and the author writes a sequel, I have mixed feelings. My first reaction is, "Wonderful! I can't wait to go on another adventure with my new friends! What if the characters do things that make me not love them anymore? Do I really want to risk the good feelings I have from the first book? More layers have been added to their back stories and their relationship is growing deeper--still best friends but with a tiny hint of possible future romance as they age together, which was endearing.
This book is not soda pop and bubble gum, however. Serious and important themes of bullying, misunderstood people who are "different," and untimely death and loss are deftly woven into a beautiful story of mystery and friendship. Stevie-girl and the Phantom Student is the second in a series and is just as good as the first. Probably targeted toward middle-graders, this fifty-year-old found it a fun and enjoyable read. As in the first one, Stevie and her best friend, Jase encounter phantoms that need their help.
This time it is a young girl from another time--a former friend of Stevie's dead mother--who appears just when a new student comes to Stevie and Jace's school. Through this spirit and getting to know Derol, the new kid, better, Stevie learns about Tourette syndrome and Albinism. I recommend it to all middle-graders and to their parents.

I got this for my middle school aged niece but I read it too and must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wasn't really aware that it was book 2 in a series until after I had already started reading it but I think I can safely say that even if you haven't read the other ones, or read them out of order, that they still read perfectly well as stand alone stories.
I really enjoyed this book and need to go get the other books in the series. I'm so thankful for Twitter. Otherwise I wouldn't know about Ann Swann.

This book definitely does not disappoint!! Each book in the series is even better than the last. This author is a force to be reckoned with. She literally makes you fall in love with her characters. I absolutely can't wait to read more!!!
